Congratulations to on "doing a Flickr" and getting themselves bought by Yahoo. Nice work. As an end user though I hope that Flickr and are allowed to retain their own unique identities, and the nice clean interfaces they've developed (i.e. devoid of animated banner ads!).

As if to confirm that is indeed ready for mainstream acceptance, this announcement comes on the same day that my good lady wife signed up for her own account. I'm not allowed to link to it as her bookmarks are self-confessedly "silly" - let's just say that there are no references to CSS, Web 2.0 or Ruby on Rails in there, putting her distinctly in the minority of users - but for how long?
