favicon.ico

favicon.ico invariably appears top of the list in my 404 error logs (at least since I got into the habit of putting robots.txt files in my webroots), so I thought it was about time I looked into making some icon files for the sites I develop.

The following two very different methods have proved useful:

• FavIcon from Pics - online software to generate a favicon.ico from an uploaded image file
• png2ico - neat little command line tool to generate a favicon.ico from a local PNG file
